MERET OPPENHEIM TOWER
A DISTINCTIVE TOWER OF STACKED VOLUMES

In close proximity to the railway station SBB in Basel, the 85m high Meret Oppenheim Tower as well as a single-storey underground central logistics delivery centre are under construction. The form of the tower is the result of stacking volumes of different sizes. The resulting setoffs, terraces, and gaps lend the tower its uniquely distinctive cubature. Large parking and equipment areas are planned for the three subterranean storeys of the tower. Additionally, there will also be an underground connection to the logistics centre and a walkway to the railway station.

Generously sized gastronomical and commercial areas are planned for the 23 storeys above the basement. The residential units will be located on the upper storeys. All of the apartments are equipped with either a balcony or a terrace. A special challenge was posed in the development of a continuous load bearing system for the stacked mixed utilizations. Bracing or load transfer levels could be completely set aside. Moreover, the structure was designed that a flexible usage of the floor-plans is possible. All this benefits an economical structure and construction process.
