ROCHE BAU 2
SWITZERLAND’S TALLEST BUILDING

The 41 storey Bau 1, completed in 2015 for F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, will have a big brother: directly opposite Bau 1 is the location for the new office tower Bau 2, which with a height of 205 meters and 50 storeys will depose Bau 1 and become the highest building in Switzerland. As well as approximately 3200 office work places, there will be zones for fostering communication and cooperation in the new building. Additionally, there are modern meeting and video conference rooms planned on various special utilization floors as well as two cafeterias.

The efficient structural concept of building 1 has been improved to perfection considering the past construction experience. So the construction company was able to finish the shell in highest quality even before the agreed deadline.

The building, planned as a solid construction, tapers from 32 m x 59 m on the ground floor to 32 m x 16 m on the 49th upper floor. Two upwardly stepped reinforced concrete cores, which are fixed in the three-storey basement structure, form the bracing for the building. The cantilevered slabs of up to 3.60 meters and the generous stairwell openings in the communication zone sections can be implemented by pre-stressing the corresponding slab panels. The foundation of the building is accomplished in the same way as Bau 1, with a combined pile-slab foundation.
